Where is Fiji?
Fiji is made up of 333 picture-perfect islands spread out over more than 18,000 square kilometres in the heart of the South Pacific, about 3,000 kilometres east of Australia and 2,000 kilometres north of New Zealand.
Most foreign visitors fly into Nadi International Airport on the west of Fiji’s largest island, Viti Levu. From there, travellers can fan out across Fiji to countless holiday destinations across eight different island groups, Viti Levu, Vanua Levu (northeast of Viti Levu), Taveuni, Kadavu, the Mamanuca Islands (west of Viti Levu), Yasawa Islands (north of Viti Levu), the Lomaiviti Islands and the remote Lau Islands.
Viti Levu and Vanua Levu contain most of the population and Viti Levu is where you will also find most of the hotels and resorts to stay at. The two main holiday destinations on Viti Levu are Denarau Island (about 30 minutes by road from the airport) and the Coral Coast (1-2 hours depending on where you are staying).
The larger Islands in Fiji, Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Ovalau and Kadavu, have their own road networks to cater for visitors. To access other island groups, such as the pristine Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands, over water travel is required by either domestic air travel or water travel, including ferries, water taxis.
Destinations outside of the main island are practically endless and with many transport options to get you to where you’re going, choosing just one is almost impossible! If you’re having trouble deciding, take a look at the various locations and attractions that interest you and compare resorts nearby to narrow it down.
