Fiji is a place where the most vivid beauty in the depths of your imagination comes to life. Before you see it with your own eyes, you don’t believe the waters could really be as electric blue, or the weather so balmy and pleasant. The white beaches that stretch as far as you could wander feel like a dream until your toes are in that sand. It’s a dream destination, one which captivates you with its every turn from the moment you arrive. Once on this dream island, although the surrounds of your unbelievably luxurious resort might seem like all you could ever need for the rest of your life, the Island has an abundance of secret wonder, just waiting for you to discover.
Begin your adventure on a trip to and around the islands. Modes of transport vary, but you can’t go past a vast sailboat, the wind blowing in your hair as you speed through the waters of paradise. One of Fiji’s most popular diving areas is the Mamanuca and Yasawa island groups area. This area is perfect for beginners, diving veterans or just leisure divers who want to have a relaxing place to explore. Here you can find soft coral, hard coral, marine life, sharks, and even ship wrecks! And all of this less than an hour off the mainland!
For something a little different, drive out of Nadi through long sugar-cane fields, small villages, and side-of-the-road fruit stalls until you reach the Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pool. The lush greens of the gardens allow for two large pond-like openings. One is filled with a thick charcoal mud, the other with steaming clear waters. Firstly, invigorate your skin with the minerals of the clay-like mud – it might be a weird feeling at first, but we promise, you get used to it quicker than you’d think! After the mud has dried on your body, saunter over to the delightfully tepid hot springs. This natural spa treatment will enliven your skin: wash the cleansing mud off and you’ll be thrilled with how soft your body feels. Just make sure you’re careful getting in and out of the pools… tripping up the ladder mightn’t hurt your body, but it’s sure to bruise your ego (as one may have experienced)!
Koroyanitu National Heritage Park is the perfect spot to rejuvenate your very being. The moderate-level hike will take you past rock pools, to waterfalls and up to a lookout that will make you feel as though you might just be the only few people left on the earth. The views are absolutely breathtaking and make sure you breathe as much of that delicious air in – as it doesn’t get much fresher than that.
You won’t want to skip the chance to explore the heart of the island in the remote highlands of Vitu Levu – a dense forest landscape of tropical and jungle trees. Slicing a deep chasm through the island’s tropical interior is the Upper Navua River, on which you can take an exhilarating white-water rafting tour through stunning geological scenery, countless waterfalls and amazing secret rock pools. The friendly guides are almost better than the actual experience – their local knowledge and cheeky sense of humour will shake any hesitation right out of – you won’t be doing much more than laughing!
Fiji is a divine land, abundant in beauty wherever you turn. Hire a car and drive down the Coral Coast, you’ll be sure to find some local culinary gems along the way – the coconut mud crab is one of the best things you’ll taste! Alternatively, (or additionally!) explore the local markets for delicious and fresh produce. From the islands, to the coast line, to the heartland – Fiji will make you want to throw away your return ticket and live off the land. Indulge in this magical country as much as you can, you’ll be glad you did.
