Discover Fiji’s Marine Playground
The spectacular coastline and pristine waters surrounding Fiji are an attraction within themselves. With golden sand beaches, turquoise lagoons, exotic coral reefs and lush tropical mangroves, it’s no wonder that water lovers flock to Fiji to take advantage of the abundance of water activities available.
Here, at My Fiji, many of our resorts offer an excellent range of water sports that will have you out on the water and splashing about to your heart’s content. These can include stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing, parasailing, banana boating and so much more. Here are some of our favourite Fiji water sports.
Windsurfing and Kitesurfing
For those who love adventure sports, Fiji is the perfect place to try your hand at windsurfing or kitesurfing. Strong, consistent winds combined with the flat, shallow waters surrounding Fiji’s islands create the ideal conditions for both of these water sports. The best places to go windsurfing and kitesurfing in Fiji include the Coral Coast, Namotu Island and Taveuni Island.
Jet skiing in Fiji is the perfect activity to get your heart racing and can be enjoyed by both novices and pros alike. There are plenty of tour operators throughout Fiji that can take you out on a guided jet ski safari or if you feel confident on the water, you can simply hire a jet ski and thrash through the azure waters on your own.
Flyboarding is the latest craze in Fiji water sports and involves wearing a jetpack and literally flying above the glistening ocean. You can try this exhilarating experience for yourself at Shangri-La Yanuca Island or by getting in touch with one of the many certified flyboard instructors across Fiji.
Kayaking and Stand-up Paddleboarding
Prefer a more relaxing approach to water sports? There’s nothing more peaceful than paddling along the water’s surface in a kayak or stand-up paddleboard. Choose to take advantage of complimentary equipment use and glide along the waters surrounding your resort or opt for a guided tour – a sea kayaking adventure is a particularly great way to discover the vibrant coral and exotic fish species from above the water. And these experiences aren’t just limited to the ocean – you can also embark on a kayaking adventure through the rivers of Fiji to discover local villages and luscious highland scenery.
Parasailing in Fiji is a truly unforgettable experience. Nothing beats soaring over vibrant blue waters, all while enjoying a birds-eye view of emerald islands and golden beaches. Plus, parasailing is a water sport the whole family can enjoy – children as young as seven can join in or you can opt for a tandem parasail to experience the views with a loved one.
Another favourite Fiji water sport amongst families is banana boating. Jump onboard a banana-shaped boat and hold on tight as you drift and skip behind a racing jet ski, all while exploring the calm waters and tropical landscapes of Fiji. A banana boat ride will likely be amongst the best fun you have whilst in Fiji.
With over 333 islands to explore, every Fiji itinerary should include some island hopping. After all, cruising and sailing are the best ways to uncover the islands of Fiji in pure luxury and relaxation. Choose from a multi-day sail through the untouched Yasawa Islands or a day cruise to some of the most sought-after destinations in Fiji. Or, if you’re a keen skipper, you may prefer to hire a sailboat and head out on the water yourself. Regardless of which you choose, there is a range of cruise and sail tours that depart daily from across Fiji, including Denarau and the Coral Coast.
Fiji is renowned worldwide as a premier fishing destination. The underwater ecosystem here is home to over 1,200 species of reef fish and a massive array of exciting game fish, including sailfish and blue marlin. Plus, there’s fishing for all levels in Fiji. Keen fishermen can embark on a deep-sea fishing adventure, while reef and mangrove fishing is perfect for those looking to take the kids out on their first angler experience.
